OSCAR reconstructs what happened on the water. Passage traces the weather behind the forecast. Both let you inspect the evidence yourself.
In the water and on the bench
Each starts with the same rule: keep the source data visible, and let sailors challenge the result.
Find your race, then take it apart. OSCAR rebuilds the fleet from tracker data and compares each boat with its polar, the current and an optimal route. The archive runs from Lake Geneva dinghies to transatlantic races.
A forecast should be open to inspection. Passage identifies the depression, front and timing behind a passage forecast. Claims link back to source evidence, and completed forecasts are checked against the weather that followed.
Which tactical choices survive the statistics? We are testing explainable models on 1,257 boat-races from nine offshore classics. The aim is narrow: separate repeatable race-winning patterns from a good story told after the finish.
We have more work in progress. It will appear here when there is something useful to put in a sailor's hands.
